New Permanent Representative of Georgia Presents Credentials
VIENNA, 25 May (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations (Vienna), Paata Gaprindashvili, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Antonio Maria Costa.
Mr. Gaprindashvili is also serving as Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), a post which he assumed this year.
Mr. Gaprindashvili has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy to Austria and Deputy Permanent Representative, Mission to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna (2005-09); Director, International Organizations Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2005); Deputy Director, Defence Development Department, National Security Council (2005); Deputy Defence Minister (2004); Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy to Ukraine (2003-04); Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Diplomatic Mission to Romania (2002-03); Director, Defence Policy and International Relations Department, Ministry of Defence (1999-2001); First Secretary, Embassy to Greece (1996-99); Third Secretary, International Organizations Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then First Secretary, Politico-Military Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1994-96).
Mr. Gaprindashvili holds a Master's degree in International Law and International Relations from Tbilisi State University.
Mr. Gaprindashvili is married and has two children.
