New Permanent Representative of Australia Presents Credentials
VIENNA, 18 August (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations (Vienna), Michael Potts, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Antonio Maria Costa.
Mr. Potts is also serving as Ambassador to Austria.
Mr. Potts has served in many capacities in the course of his career among them: First Assistant Secretary, International Organizations and Legal Division and Ambassador for People Smuggling Issues, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2007-09), High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea (2002-06), First Assistant Secretary, International Division, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (2001-02), First Assistant Secretary, International Organizations and Legal Division (1998-00), Assistant Secretary, Trade Policy and Industrials Branch (1997-98), Assistant Secretary, Mainland South East Asia Branch (1996-97), Assistant Secretary, Maritime South East Asia Branch (1994-96), Ambassador to Viet Nam (1991-94), Counsellor, Australian Mission to the United Nations (New York) (1985-88), Acting High Commissioner, Lusaka (1980-83), and Second and First Secretary, Australian Embassy, Vientiane (1977-79).
Mr. Potts, who is married, holds a degree in History from the University of Sydney.
