VIENNA, 30 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations (Vienna), Ukur Kanacho Yatani, presented his credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Antonio Maria Costa.
Mr. Yatani is also serving as Ambassador Designate to Austria, Hungary and Slovakia and as Permanent Representative to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), posts which he assumed this year.
Mr. Yatani has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Director, Diyara Ltd. (2008-09), Director, Konacho Foundation (2008-09), Assistant Minister for Science and Technology (2006-07), Member of Parliament (2006-07), Senior District Commissioner (2005-06), District Commissioner, Department of Provincial Administration, Office of the President (2002-05), Senior District Officer, Department of Provincial Administration, Office of the President (2001-02), District Officer, Department of Provincial Administration, Office of the President (1992-2001) and Project Development Officer, Christian Children's Fund (CCF) Kenya (1991-92).
Mr. Yatani holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration and Public Policy from York University, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Egerton University, Kenya. He speaks English, Gabbra and Kiswahili.
He is married and has three children.
