New Permanent Representative of Finland Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 2 October (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations (Vienna), Marjatta Rasi, presented her credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Antonio Maria Costa.

Ms. Rasi is also serving as Ambassador to Vienna, a post which she assumed this year.

Ms. Rasi has served in many capacities in the course of her career, among them: Under-Secretary of State, Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2005-09), Governor, Asian Development Bank (2005-09), Governor, African Development Bank (2005-09), Governor, Inter-American Development Bank (2005-09), Chairperson, United Nations Peace Building Fund Advisory Board (since 2007), Member of Board, The Finnish Church Aid (since 2006), Chairperson of Board, Finnish Fund for Industrial Cooperation Ltd. (since 2005), Member of Board, International Peace Institute (since 2000), Permanent Representative to the United Nations (New York) (1997-2005), President, United Nations Economic and Social Council (2004), Vice-President, United Nations Economic and Social Council (2002-03), Director-General, Department for International Development Cooperation, Ministry for Foreign Affairs (1995-97), Ambassador to New Delhi, Dhaka, Colombo, Kathmandu and Thimphu (1991-95), and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations (New York) and Chairperson, Security Council Committee established by resolution 661 (1990) concerning the situation between Iraq and Kuwait (1987-91).

Ms. Rasi holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Helsinki, Finland.
