New Permanent Representative of Turkey Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 10 November (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Turkey, Ramazan Tomur Bayer, presented his credentials today to the Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Mazlan Othman.

Mr. Bayer has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Director General, International Security Affairs Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (since 2004); Ambassador to Sweden (2003-2004); Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (2000-2003); Deputy Director General, General Directorate of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Western European Union, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1996-2000); Head, Maritime Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1995-96); Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission to NATO (1991-1995); Counsellor, Permanent Mission to the United Nations (Geneva) (1990-1991); Head of the Department of Policy Planning, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1988-1990); First Secretary then Counsellor, Embassy in Beijing, China (1983-1988); Head of Section, Department of International Economic Institutions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1981-1983); First Secretary then Charge D'Affaires, Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan (1979-1981); Second then First Secretary, Embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (1976-1979); Second Secretary, Department of Political Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1975-1976).

Mr. Bayer holds a degree in International Relations from the University of Ankara.

He is married with one child.
