New UNIDO Magazine Focuses on Role of Industry as Wealth Creation and Development Force
VIENNA, 7 December (UN Information Service) - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) today launched a new quarterly magazine, Making It: Industry for Development.
The magazine aims to stimulate informed debate about the role of industry as a dynamic force in wealth creation and development on the one hand, and the need to ensure the environmental and social sustainability of industry on the other.
At the opening of the UNIDO general conference in Vienna, UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella, described Making It as a "high-quality, scholarly, but accessible magazine".
Each issue of Making It will have a main theme, around which the 48-page magazine will draw together feature articles, news, and research of interest. The magazine's contributors come from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds.
The first issue - focusing on the promise of "green growth" - includes contributions from: eco-entrepreneur, Gunter Pauli; director of the US organization, Green For All, Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins; Professor Tim Jackson, author of Prosperity without Growth; as well as UNEP Executive Director, Achim Steiner.
The magazine also features exclusive interviews with the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and the Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Hélène Pelosse.
The cover illustration is by renowned political cartoonist, Patrick Chappatte, and referring to the image, Yumkella said "Green industry is a priority. As you can see from this picture, the green shoots are there already - but we need to keep growing them."
The magazine website - www.MakingItmagazine.net - includes additional material and relevant links, and provides a platform for discussion and debate about the intersection of industry and development.
