New Permanent Representative of South Africa
Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 9 February (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of South Africa, Xolisa Mabhongo, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Antonio Maria Costa.

Mr. Mabhongo has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Chief Director, United Nations Political, Multilateral Branch Department of International Relations and Cooperation (since 2007); Director, United Nations, Multilateral Branch, Department of International Relations and Cooperation (2006), Counsellor then Minister Counsellor/Acting Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission to the United Nations (New York) (2001-06); First Secretary, Permanent Mission to the United Nations (Geneva) (1999-2001); Senior Foreign Service Officer, Foreign Service Institute, Department of International Relations and Cooperation (1997-98); Senior Foreign Service Officer, Directorate: Media Liaison, Department of International Relations and Cooperation (1996); and Senior Foreign Service Officer, Directorate: Marketing Communication, Department of International Relations and Cooperation (1995).

Mr. Mabhongo holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Columbia University, New York, United States; a Post-Graduate Certificate in Diplomatic Studies from Oxford University, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor's degree from Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa.

He is married.
