New Permanent Representative of Syria
Presents Credentials
VIENNA, 3 March (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Syria, Bassam Sabbagh, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Antonio Maria Costa.
Mr. Sabbagh is also serving as Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Mr. Sabbagh has served in many capacities in the course of his career, among them: Chef de Cabinet, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-10), Counsellor, Permanent Mission to the United Nations (New York) (2001-06), Deputy Director, Office of the Deputy Foreign Minister (2000-01), Second then First Secretary, Embassy in Washington D.C., United States (1995-2000) and Attaché, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1994-95).
Mr. Sabbagh holds a Higher Diploma in International Affairs from the Aleppo University and a Bachelor's degree in Political Sciences from the Higher Institute for Political Sciences, Damascus.
