UNIDO Director-General to visit Bangladesh, Japan and Sri Lanka

VIENNA, 4 June (UN Information Service) - The Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh K. Yumkella, will travel to Bangladesh, Japan and Sri Lanka from 5 to 17 June.

During his visit to Dhaka from 5 to 8 June, Mr. Yumkella is expected to have meetings with the Prime Minister and Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Industries, and Health and Family Welfare. He will also take part in the inauguration of a Metrology Institute.

Journalists are invited to a news conference at 11:45, on Tuesday, 8 June, at the VIP Lounge of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka.

From 8 to 12 June, the Director-General will be in Colombo, where he is expected to have meetings with the President, the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Industry and Commerce.

He will deliver a speech a the 9th Asia Pacific Round Table on Sustainable Consumption and Productivity and take part in a seminar on Industrial Development Challenges in the 21st Century, organized by the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries.

Journalists are invited to a news conference at 11:15, on Thursday, 10 June, at the Colombo Hilton.

From 13 to 17 June, Mr. Yumkella will visit Japan for meetings with Government officials.

He will also meet with the Mayor of Kita-Kyushu and visit the SHARP industrial complex in Sakai, take part in a seminar on Africa and its sustainability at the United Nations University in Tokyo, speak at the Keizai Doyukai (the Japan Association of Corporative Executives) and present the latest report of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change (AGECC) at the Foreign Press Club.

Journalists are invited to attend the speech by the UNIDO Director-General at 12:00, on Wednesday, 16 June, at the Foreign Press Club, Tokyo.
