UNIDO to Mark Africa Industrialization Day Tomorrow

VIENNA, 18 November (UN Information Service) - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is organizing a symposium in Vienna on Friday, to mark Africa Industrialization Day. The event will focus on competitive industries for the development of Africa, especially the role of agro-industries.

The Director-General of UNIDO, Kandeh K. Yumkella, and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yury Fedotov, will attend the event.

The symposium will be followed by a reception which will feature statements in the name of the UN Secretary-General, the President of the UN General Assembly, the Chairperson of the African Group, as well as a joint statement by the African Union Commission, the UN Economic Commission for Africa and UNIDO.

In 1989, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 20 November Africa Industrialization Day. African countries can reflect on this Day on the progress made towards achieving strategic and sustainable industrial development.

Journalists are invited to attend the event which starts at 15:00, on Friday, 19 November, in Conference Room M1, M-building of the VIC. It will be followed by a reception at 17:30 in Cafeteria III, VIC Restaurant.
