New Permanent Representative of Honduras
Presents Credentials
VIENNA, 31 January (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Honduras, Roberto Flores Bermúdez, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
Mr. Flores Bermúdez, a career diplomat, has served in various capacities in the course of his career with the Honduran Foreign Service, which he joined in the late 1970s. Among them: Ambassador to the United States (1994-1998 and 2006-2009), Ambassador to Germany (2002-2006), Foreign Minister of Honduras (1999-2002), Ambassador to the United Kingdom (1998-1999) and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (1990-1994).
Mr. Flores Bermúdez was the Chief Negotiator for Honduras in the Central American Peace Process in the late 1980s resulting in the signature and implementation of the ceasefire. He played a key role in the first deployment of Honduran Military officers in UN peacekeeping operations.
He graduated from Law School in 1973 and is married to Mrs. Laura Flores.
