New Permanent Representative of the Lao People's Democratic Republic
Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 18 March (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Khamkheuang Bounteum, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.

Mr. Bounteum has served in various capacities in the course of his career with the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which he joined in 1986. Among them: Director General, Department of Treaties and Law (2006-2011); Deputy Director General, Department of Treaties and Law (2003-2006); Director, Bilateral Treaty Division (2000-2003 and 1997-1998); Deputy Director, Bilateral Treaty Division (1996); Executive Officer, Bilateral Treaty Division (1994-1996); Third Secretary, Lao Embassy to Australia (1991-1994); Executive Officer, Press Department and Ministerial Cabinet (1989-1991); Desk Officer Poland, Department I (1986-1989).

Mr. Bounteum was Co-Chair of the Informal Bilateral Human Rights Dialogue with Sweden (2007-2010), Australia (2006-2009) and the European Union (2008). He worked as Project Executive of the International Law Project (2003-2010).

Mr. Bounteum holds a Master's degree in Foreign Affairs and Trade and a Higher Diploma of Politics and Public Administration. He is married with two children.
