New Permanent Representative of Nepal
Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 17 December (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Nepal, Shanker D. Bairagi, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) Yury Fedotov.
Mr. Bairagi currently serves as Ambassador to Switzerland and Italy and as Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva and in Vienna.
Mr. Bairagi joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1987 and has served in various capacities during his career, among them:
Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2009-2012); Joint Secretary, Multilateral Economic Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2009); Minister-Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Nepal in Canberra (2008-2009); Under Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2004-2007); Counsellor/Minister-Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Nepal to the Benelux countries and Mission to the European Union (2000-2004); Under Secretary, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and South Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1998-2000).
Mr. Bairagi has a Master's Degree in Political Science from the Faculty of Humanity and Social Sciences, Tribhuvan University and a Master's Degree in European Integration and Development from the Free University of Brussels. He holds a Bachelor in Law from the University of Kathmandu.
He is married and has three children.
