New Permanent Representative of Thailand
Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 24 May (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Thailand, Somsakdi Suriyawongse, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.

Mr. Suriyawongse has been Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Austria since 2012. During his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which he joined in 1977, Mr. Suriyawongse has served in various capacities, among them:

Ambassador to Italy (2010-12); Director-General, Department of Protocol (2006-10); Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (2003-06); Minister, Embassy in Riyadh (2000-03); Minister, Embassy in Seoul (1997-2000); Minister Counsellor, Embassy in Seoul (1996-97); Director, Department of Protocol (1993-96); Counsellor, Department of East Asian Affairs (1992-93); First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations Office Geneva (1989-92); First Secretary, Southeast Asia Division, Department of Political Affairs (1986-89); Second Secretary, Africa and Arab Countries Division, Department of Political Affairs (1985-86); Second Secretary, Embassy in Ankara (1981-85).

Mr. Suriyawongse was a Lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science at Thammasat University from 1976-1977. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Thammasat University.
