Readout of Secretary-General's
meetings with Austrian President and Foreign Minister

VIENNA, 26 November (UN Information Service) - The Secretary-General met today with the President of Austria, H.E. Mr. Heinz Fischer, and the Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Michael Spindelegger.

In both meetings, the Secretary-General thanked Austria for contributing the largest number of troops to the UN Disengagement Observer Force on the Golan and for its continued commitment to the mission despite the difficult circumstances there. He also underscored the importance of Vienna as regional hub for the United Nations.

In the meeting with the President, the Secretary-General also discussed the Middle East Peace Process, the recently agreed ceasefire between Israel and Gaza and developments in Southeastern Europe.

The Secretary-General also discussed these topics with the Foreign Minister. They additionally discussed developments in the Sahel, Mali, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria and Egypt and nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and sustainable energy.
