UNIDO delegation in Seoul for talks on expanding cooperation with Republic of Korea
SEOUL/VIENNA, 22 October (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - A UNIDO delegation arrived in the Republic of Korea today to further expand joint cooperation and discuss possible priorities and themes for moving towards a strategic, medium-term cooperation framework.
"In May this year, we signed a funding agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and in March last year, another one with the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, to collaborate on joint projects and activities in the fields of green growth technology and low-carbonindustrial development," said Wilfried Luetkenhorst, UNIDO Managing Director.
"This time we are discussing with our counterparts potential joint projects and funding to further expand our partnership. We also plan to discuss cooperation with such institutions as the Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO) and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP)."
UNIDO is working closely with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), initiated by the Government of the Republic of Korea, in the field of climate change and green growth through joint projects and international fora such as the Global Green Growth Forum. The Organization is also expanding its cooperation with the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Luetkenhorst added that one of the joint projects will focus on biogas technology and business development in Ghana. The Ministry of Knowledge Economy will support the project through its international cooperation programme for joint research and development. The EUR 1 million project will address the policy aspects of the development of biogas technology, and establish a pilot project to demonstrate and introduce appropriate technologies and study their suitability for, or adaptation to the local context.
