VIENNA, 8 March (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Afghanistan Ayoob M. Erfani presented his credentials today to the Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) Mazlan Othman.
During his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which he joined in 1988, Mr. Erfani has served in various capacities, among them:
Director-General, Department of United Nations and International Conferences and Multilateral Issues (2011-present); Deputy Permanent Representative in New York (2007-2011); Director-General, Department of United Nations and International Conferences (2006-2007); Minister-Counsellor, Permanent Mission in New York (2003-2005); Counsellor, Permanent Mission in New York (2002-2003); First Secretary, Chief Coordinator, Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, New York (1996-2001); First Secretary, Permanent Mission in New York (1995-1996); Second Secretary, Permanent Mission in New York (1991-1994); Member, Department of Middle East and Africa, (1988-1991).
Mr. Erfani studied Law and Theology at Kabul University, Diplomacy at the Afghan Institute of Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has a Master's degree in International Relations from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
Mr. Erfani is married and has four children. He speaks English, Russian, Arabic, Turkish, Dari, Uzbek and Pashto.
