New Permanent Representative of Portugal Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 16 April (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Portugal, Pedro Luis Baptista Moitinho de Almeida, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.

During his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which he joined in 1975, Mr. Moitinho de Almeida  has served in various capacities, among them:

Special Representative of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union for the Strategic Dialogues and Troikas with third countries on Asian and Oceania affairs (2007); Head of Mission of the European Union Monitors for the Balkans, Sarajevo (2000); Head of the Portuguese Mission in Timor-Leste (2000-2002); Consul-General in Barcelona, Counselor of Embassy and Minister Plenipotentiary (1993-1997); Director of the Africa Bureau (1991); Director of the Bureau for Security Defence and Disarmament (1990); Chief of Division of the Multilateral Bureau (1989).

Mr. Moitinho de Almeida holds a degree in Economics from the University of Lisbon.

He is married and has two daughters.
