New Permanent Representative of Romania Presents Credentials

VIENNA, 23 May (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations (Vienna), Cristian Istrate, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.

During his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Mr. Istrate has served in various capacities, among them:

Director General, Head of the Department for Strategic Affairs (2011-2013); Ambassador to Norway (2006-2011); Director General for Security Policy (2004-2006); Deputy Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Council, Brussels (2000-2004); Director of NATO Division (1999-2000);  Deputy Head of Delegation to the Conference on Disarmament, Geneva (1994-1999).

Mr. Istrate is a graduate of the University of Bucharest and holds a Doctoral Degree (PhD) from the Romanian Academy. He speaks English, French and Spanish.

He is married and has two children.
