VIENNA, 3 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Latvia, Bahtijors Hasans, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
Mr. Hasans currently also serves as the Permanent Representative of Latvia to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and other international organizations in Vienna.
During his career, Mr. Hasans has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Latvia to Slovenia and Kosovo (2010-2013); Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Latvia in Finland (2006-2010); Head of Legal Affairs Division, European Union (EU) Coordination Department (2005-2006); Counsellor and Head of EU Law Division, EU Coordination Department, EU Law Division (2004); Counsellor, EU External Economic Relations Department (2004); First Secretary, Embassy of Latvia in Sweden (2001-2004); Senior Desk Officer, Third Secretary, Second Secretary, and Head of the Asian and African Countries Division (1997-2001); Third Secretary, Embassy of Latvia in Uzbekistan (1994-1997); Desk Officer, then Senior Desk Officer, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Countries Department (1993-1994); Coordinator, University of Latvia, Faculty of Biology, Teacher's Further Education Institute (1991-1992).
Mr. Hasans is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Philology of the University of Latvia. He speaks Latvian, English, Persian, Turkish, French and Russian.
