The United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna and the Austrian Peacekeepers Association invite the media to attend the launch of the book:

"Humanitarian Assistance in Complex Emergencies - What Role for the Military?"

The book explores how military and civil defence assets, already prepared for responding rapidly to disasters, can fill existing gaps of humanitarian assistance in conflict situations. They can enable traditional humanitarian assistance providers to use military resources to increase their capacity.

The book's authors, General Günther Greindl President of the Austrian Peacekeepers Association, Colonel Georg Ebner of the Austrian National Defence Academy and journalist Thomas Achleitner will outline the main points of the book. This will be followed by an overview of UN peacekeeping in 2013 by the UNIS Director Janos Tisovszky and then Brigadier Robert Brieger from the Austrian Ministry of Defence will talk about the current challenges facing Austrian peacekeeping operations.

The launch will be followed by a a Q&A session and a short reception.
