UNIDO's General Conference to open in Lima 2 December

VIENNA, 10 November 2013 (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - The General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will open in the Peruvian capital on 2 December.

The President of Peru, Ollanta Humala, will speak at the opening of the five-day event, which will bring together some 1,000 participants from all 172 UNIDO Member States, including Heads of State and Governments, representatives of the diplomatic and business community, UN organizations, civil society and academia.

The event, which has the theme, "UNIDO: Towards partnerships for a new industrial revolution for inclusive and sustainable growth", will feature two high-level forums: 'Partnerships for industrial development', and 'Industrial development as a sustainable development goal'. There will also be interregional debates on the topics of green industry, job creation strategies economic diversification, and women's empowerment as part of inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

In addition, also in Lima, UNIDO will be organizing a Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Ministerial Conference on 30 November, and a Conference of Latin American Ministers of Industry on 1 December, and will launch its flagship publication, the 2013 Industrial Development Report on 5 December.

The General Conference will open at 10:00, on Monday, 2 December, at the Westin Hotel and Convention Centre in Lima, to be followed by a news conference at 12:30.

The LDCs Ministerial Conference and the Conference of Latin American Ministers of Industry will take place in the same venue.
