VIENNA, 23 May 2013 (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) -The Programme and Budget Committee of UNIDO today recommended the Organization's Industrial Development Board to adopt a 2014-15 budget totalling EUR 176.5 million.
The decision was taken during the Programme and Budget Committee meeting that ended today at the Organization's headquarters in Vienna.
Participants expressed confidence in the mandate of UNIDO, and emphasized the importance of services being delivered to developing countries. They also welcomed the briefing by the Director General on the Vienna Energy Forum, a major international event that will open next week in the Austrian capital and which is expected to be attended by some 1,700 participants from all over the world.
Member States also commended the Director General of UNIDO, Kandeh K. Yumkella, for his leadership and dedication to the Organization since 2005. Yumkella will leave his post on 28 June to focus on his new role as the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All.
The adoption of the new budget will allow the new Director General to deliver on the overall objectives set by Member States for the future of the Organization.
