BEIJING/VIENNA, 10 November 2013 (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - XI Jinping, the President of the People's Republic of China, today met with LI Yong, the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Director General Li highly commended the fruitful cooperation that has existed between China and UNIDO for more than 40 years.
He briefed President Xi about the 15th session of the UNIDO General Conference to be held in Lima, Peru, from 2-6 December, and shared with Xi his new vision for UNIDO with a focus on Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID).
President Xi spoke highly of UNIDO, praising the Organization for helping developing countries achieve industrial development. He pointed out that China's cooperation with UNIDO had synchronized with China's reform and process of openness, saying that UNIDO had made a positive contribution to this process.
President Xi said that the new vision for UNIDO with a focus on Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development fully concurred with China's priority for future development, as the country continues to promote industrialization and is ready to learn from advanced international industrial development concepts and ideas. He added that the Government of China and UNIDO had together just organized a successful Green Industry Conference in Guangzhou, good example of bilateral cooperation which will lead to further achievements in the field.
President Xi stressed that China has always supported the international development agenda within the framework of South-South cooperation. China is willing to work with UNIDO in a mutually beneficial spirit and based on a win-win principle to help developing countries achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals and to contribute to international development and prosperity. China will continue to support UNIDO and especially the work of Director General LI Yong, said the president.
Director General Li thanked the Government of China for its strong and continuous support for UNIDO, and said that UNIDO was committed to the global development agenda. He added that China's successful experience was worth learning from. "UNIDO attaches great importance to the cooperation with China, and we will further strengthen joint activities in helping to achieve China's national development goals, as well as promoting global development," he said.
