UNIDO geared up for European Development Days 2013

BRUSSELS/VIENNA, 25 November 2013 (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will have a strong presence at this year's European Development Days (EDD13) forum, which opens in Brussels tomorrow.

Organized by the European Commission (EC), European Development Days is one of the fastest-growing international forums on global affairs and development cooperation. Its aim is to win the hearts and minds of all stakeholders, fostering engagement and facilitating the implementation of the agenda for greater aid effectiveness.

The theme of this year's EDD is ' A decent life for all by 2030 - Building a consensus for a new development agenda".

Together with its partners, UNIDO is organizing five events relating to the following aspects of both UNIDO's mandate and the EC's strategic priorities: private sector development, trade capacity-building, green industry, food security and agribusiness, productive work for youth, and energy.

Christophe Yvetot, UNIDO's representative to the European Union and Head of the UNIDO Brussels Office, said the Organization's heavy involvement reflects its determination to feed into the process of creating a vision for the post-2015 development agenda.

"UNIDO's focus on inclusive and sustainable industrial development means it is engaged in many of the main developmental challenges facing the world," said Yvetot, adding that he hoped that UNIDO and the EC will extend their existing cooperation in the 2014-2020 period.

Yvetot continued, "At this year's EDD, we have strengthened our partnerships with all kind of stakeholders from different partners, such as the International Finance Corporation, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the French Development Agency (AFD), and together with them, and all our other partners, we hope can make the event a big success."
