New Permanent Representative of the Lao People's Democratic Republic presents credentials

VIENNA, 22 August (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to the United Nations (Vienna), Phoukhao Phommavongsa, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.

Mr. Phommavongsa is also serving as Ambassador-designate to Austria.

During his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Phommavongsa has served in various capacities, among them:

Director General, Office of the National Boundary Committee (2004-2014); Deputy-Director General, Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs (2003-2004); National Project Director on International Law Project (2000); Deputy-Director General, Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs (1997); Director of Legal Affairs Division, Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs (1997); Chargé d' Affaires a.i., Embassy to Hungary (1991-1993); Third Secretary, Embassy to Hungary (1990).

Mr. Phommavongsa holds a Ph.D. in Law and Political Science from the Jozsef Attila University in Szeged, Hungary and a Master's Degree in Public Administration and Management from the RUCA University in Antwerpen, Belgium. He speaks Hungarian, English and French.

Mr. Phommavongsa is married and has three children.
