VIENNA, 1 September (UN Information Service) - Media are invited to follow a press briefing on the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 September at 18.00 hrs (Vienna time) by webcast. The briefing will be given by Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Margaret Chan, and the Senior United Nations System Coordinator for Ebola Virus Disease, Dr. David Nabarro.
As part of the global effort to control the outbreak of Ebola, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in consultation with Dr. Chan, recently appointed Dr. Nabarro to ensure an effective and coordinated contribution by the United Nations system to controlling the Ebola outbreak. Dr. Nabarro has just returned from a visit to four affected West African countries; Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria, and will be able to brief the media first-hand.
Ebola has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by WHO.
