VIENNA, 30 October (UN Information Service) - The Austrian winner of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will perform live at the Vienna International Centre in the presence of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, during the Secretary-General's visit to the United Nations in Vienna. During the event both the UN Secretary-General and the singer will address the audience of UN staff, diplomats and members of civil society to highlight the importance of mutual respect and tolerance, and to raise awareness about the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community.
"Everyone is entitled to enjoy the same basic rights and live a life of worth and dignity without discrimination. This fundamental principle is embedded in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights."
