VIENNA, 28 November (UN Information Service) - On 1 December, following a performance by Vienna-based singer David Rodriguez-Yanez to mark World AIDS Day, UNODC Deputy Executive Director Aldo Lale-Demoz will lead the audience to the UN plaza to project a 30m AIDS Ribbon, the global symbol for HIV/AIDS, onto Tower B at the Vienna International Centre.
Speaking about the forthcoming event, Deputy Executive Director Aldo Lale-Demoz said, "The AIDS ribbon is a globally recognised symbol that stands for our fight to eliminate HIV/AIDS by the year 2030."
"By projecting the image of this powerful symbol, we are remembering those who have died, and the 35 million people who live daily with this terrible disease. But, we are also saying the world is united, we are working together and we will defeat HIV/AIDS," he added.
The event is also aimed at raising awareness, and promoting understanding of UNODC's vital work on HIV's impact on people in prisons and people who use drugs.
