VIENNA, 3 February (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations (Vienna), Giedrius Čekuolis, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During his career, Mr. Čekuolis has served in various capacities, among them:
Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) (2012 onwards); Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson in Office for Protracted Conflicts (2010-2011); Inspector General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lithuania (2009-2010); Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Morocco and to Andorra (2005-2009), to Tunisia (2004-2009), to France (2003-2009) and to Spain (1994-1999); Chief Coordinator of Lithuania's Integration to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization; Vice-Minister, then Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2000-2003); Director of the Multilateral Relations Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999-2000); Charge d'Affaires ad interim of Lithuania to France (1994); Counsellor, Embassy of Lithuania in Sweden (1992-1994); Head of the North European Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1990-1992); Lithuanian Cultural Society, Spanish Language Teacher (1982-1990).
Mr. Čekuolis holds a degree from the Institute of International Relations, Moscow. He speaks Lithuanian, Spanish, French, English and Russian.
Mr. Čekuolis is married.
