VIENNA, 14 May (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations (Vienna), Abu Zafar, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
Mr. Zafar is currently serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to Austria.
During his career, Mr. Zafar has served in various capacities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which he joined in 1991, among them: Director General of the East Asia and Pacific Wing; Director General of the South East Asia Wing; Director for Personnel, Policy and Organization.
He also worked as Consul General for Bangladesh in the United Arab Emirates (2009-2013); Consul General in the Pacific Coast of the United States (2007-2009); Counselor and Acting Deputy High Commissioner at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission (1999-2004); Second and then First Secretary at the Embassy of Bangladesh to the Netherlands, and as Alternate Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) (1997-1999).
Mr. Zafar holds a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from the Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University, Bangladesh and a postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from the International Institute of Public Administration (IIAP), France. He also hold a Master of Business Administration degree from Preston University, Karachi.
Mr. Zafar speaks English, Urdu and French.
Mr. Zafar is married and has two daughters.
