New Permanent Representative of Ethiopia presents credentials

VIENNA, 1 June (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the United Nations (Vienna), Negash Kebret Botora, presented his credentials today to the Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Dennis Thatchaichawalit.

Mr. Botora is also serving as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland.

During his career, Mr. Botora has served in various capacities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among them:

Director General for International Organizations (2011-2015); Director General for the African Directorate General (2009-2011); Director General of Asia, Australasia and Middle East General Directorate (1996-2000); Chief of Staff of the Foreign Minister (1993-1996) and until 1984 he also worked at the Department of Africa, Middle East, International Organization and Non-Aligned Movement.

His foreign posts include:

Ambassador and Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2006-2009); Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Israel (2002-2006); non-resident Ambassador to Greece and to the Holy See (2003-2006); Chargé d'Affaires to India (2000-2002 and 1995-1996).

He also worked at the Permanent Mission in Switzerland (1990-1993 and 1984-1987) and at the Ethiopian Embassy in Sweden (1987-1990).

Mr. Botora holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government Studies from the Addis Ababa University as well as a Master's degree in International Relations from Webster University in Geneva. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from the University of Stockholm.

He speaks Amharic, English and French.

Mr. Botora is married and has two children
