The impact of transnational organized crime on development will be the focus of the Thirteenth UN Crime Congress in Doha, Qatar, from 12 to 19 April 2015.  The Crime Congress brings together governments, policy-makers and experts to exchange their experiences and strengthen international cooperation in tackling the threat of transnational organized crime.

Ahead of the event, the Executive Secretary of the Congress, Dimitri Vlassis, will brief media from around the globe on the topics to be discussed.

The theme for the Thirteenth Crime Congress is: "Integrating crime prevention and criminal justice into the wider United Nations agenda to address social and economic challenges and to promote the rule of law at the national and international levels, and public participation".

Crime congresses have been held every five years since 1955 and have contributed to shaping international and domestic policies and promoting novel thinking and approaches to complex challenges at the heart of one of the key institutions of the modern state: the criminal justice system.

Please register no later than 12 noon CET on Tuesday 17 March 2015.

Media representatives in Vienna can attend in person at the Vienna International Centre.
