VIENNA, 14 August (UN Information Service) - The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Government of Japan are calling for applications for students from developing countries and non-space-faring nations for a Fellowship Programme on Nano-Satellite Technologies.
Nano-satellites are low-cost satellites using accessible, off-the shelf technology which are becoming increasingly more capable of performing application and science missions. The Fellowship Programme on Nano-Satellite Technologies has been established to promote indigenous space engineering and to help build up scientific capabilities within developing countries and non-space-faring nations.
The programme will provide extensive research opportunities for the development of nano-satellite systems through the use of the nano-satellite development and testing facilities available at the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), Japan. From among the qualified applicants up to two students will be chosen for the Master's degree programme (two years duration) and up to four students for the Doctoral degree programme (three years duration). Selected candidates will receive a grant to cover programme tuition and living costs.
Applications for the Fellowship Programme are now open and will be accepted until 24 January 2016.
