UNIDO and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce to jointly promote investment and technology projects

VIENNA/ISTANBUL, 26 May (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will revitalize their cooperation in promoting investment and technology projects.

This was emphasized in a memorandum of understanding signed today in Istanbul by Tezer Palacioĝlu, Deputy Secretary General of ICOC, and Lamine Dhaoui, Director of UNIDO's Business, Investment and Technology Services Branch.

Turkish firms will be able to conclude agreements with international partners through UNIDO's networks, programmes and projects, and the two sides will jointly implement UNIDO's Enterprise development and investment promotion (EDIP) programme in Turkey and elsewhere in the region.

"This memorandum is the first step in establishing a framework for cooperation in investment and technology promotion, which will enable enterprises to utilize a combination of tools and methodologies both from ICOC and UNIDO," said Lamine Dhaoui.

"The renewed partnership seamlessly integrates into UNIDO's focus on promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Together, we will support international cooperation in Turkey and throughout the region, which in turn will generate wealth and create jobs."

Tezer Palacioĝlu added: "We recognize that there are innumerable opportunities of mutual benefit and interest, and by strengthening the existing ties between our institutions we will open up new avenues for international cooperation."

The Head of UNIDO Operations in Turkey will be the overall coordinator for the partnership activities, and representatives from UNIDO's Subcontracting and partnership exchange programme in Turkey will be the focal point of ICOC.

With over 350,000 companies as active members, ICOC is among the world's largest chambers of commerce.
