VIENNA, 17 June (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - After implementing comprehensive 'greening' measures, including energy efficiency upgrades, and switching to 100 per cent renewable electricity, the Vienna International Centre (VIC), one of the largest United Nations compounds, has become climate neutral.
To mark this achievement, a special event will be organized on 21 June.
It will feature remarks by Yury Fedotov, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and opening remarks by LI Yong, the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Janice Dunn Lee, as well as Ambassador Wolfgang Angerholzer, Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, Austria, and the Director of the Legal and External Relations Division at the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Genxin Li, will speak at the event.
The ceremony will include a technical presentation on carbon neutrality in the VIC by Diego Masera, Chief, Buildings Management Services.
Journalists are invited to attend the ceremony which will start at 14:30, on Tuesday, 21 June, in the Rotunda, C-Building of the VIC.
