The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), Paz y Cooperacion and the Permanent Mission of Spain to the United Nations in Vienna will jointly hold a press conference on 5 October to launch the 2017 Peace and Cooperation School Award "Looking at the Stars: The Future of the World". During the year-long competition, young people from around the world will be invited to submit artworks that show how the exploration of space can bring benefits to humankind.
9.30 - 10.45am Presentation and Q&A session with three astronauts and students from two Vienna schools [Media are welcome to attend]
11.00am Press conference with UNOOSA Director Simonetta Di Pippo, Ambassador Gonzalo de Salazar of the Spanish Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, Paz y Cooperacion founder Joaquín Antuña, Elvira Sanchez-Igual from the Asociación Mundial de Educadores Infantiles-World Association of Early Educators, and one of the astronauts from the morning session.
Following the press conference, media will also be able to view an exhibition of artwork by students of Hong Kong's School of Creativity and Spanish painter Francisca Blazquez, which will be displayed in the Rotunda at the Vienna International Centre.
The astronauts' Q&A and the press conference will be streamed at www.unoosa.org.
This event will be held during World Space Week. World Space Week is observed annually from 4 to 10 October to celebrate the various contributions of space science and technology to humankind.
