1 August 2016
VIENNA, 1 August (UN Information Service) - On behalf of the International Narcotics Control Board, Board President Werner Sipp wishes to express his regret that the Government of Indonesia has recently carried out further executions of prisoners convicted of having committed drug-related offences despite calls by the international community to abstain from doing so.
The Board reiterates its call on the Government of Indonesia, and all States that retain the death penalty for drug-related offences, to commute death sentences which have already been handed down and to consider the abolition of the death penalty for drug-related offences, in view of the relevant international conventions and protocols, and resolutions of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and other UN bodies on the application of the death penalty.
