UNIDO, African Union Commission and Government of Kenya to organize event on Africa's industrialization in Nairobi

VIENNA/NAIROBI, 8 August (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - Prior to the sixth Tokyo International Conference on Africa's Development (TICAD VI) to be held from 27 to 28 August, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the African Union Commission and the Government of Kenya will organize a high-level side event.

The theme will be "Enhancing Africa's structural economic transformation through Agenda 2063 and inclusive and sustainable industrial development: fostering partnerships between the Government of Kenya, the African Union Commission, UNIDO and the private sector".

The event will provide a platform for discussing mechanisms that can support the implementation of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and specifically Sustainable Development Goal 9. It will be attended by government officials, representatives of the United Nations system, including LI Yong, the Director General of UNIDO, as well as the private sector, academia and civil society.

It is also expected that a memorandum of understanding will be signed with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), with a focus on enhancing cooperation and support for inclusive and sustainable industrial development of developing countries, particularly by promoting trade and investment between Japan and Africa.

Journalists are invited to attend the event on Friday, 26 August between 13:45 and 16.30,  at the Kenyatta International Conference Center in Nairobi.
