VIENNA, 17 January (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations (Vienna), Thomas Hanney, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During his career Mr. Hanney has served in various capacities, among them:
Deputy Permanent Representative of Ireland, Brussels (2011-2016); Ambassador of Ireland to Belgium and Ireland's Representative to the Partnership for Peace at NATO (2010-2011); Joint Secretary, North South Ministerial Council, Armagh, Northern Ireland (2006-2010); Counsellor, EU and International Affairs Division, Department of the Taoiseach, Prime Minister's Office in Dublin (2004-2006); Counsellor, Irish Aid, Department of Foreign Affairs, Dublin (1999-2004); First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Ireland to the UN at Geneva (1995-1999); Third Secretary, First Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs, Dublin (1978-1995).
Mr. Hanney is married and has three daughters.
