New Permanent Representative of Lithuania presents credentials

VIENNA, 3 May (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations (Vienna), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Aurimas Taurantas, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.

During his career Mr. Taurantas has served in various capacities, among them:

Ambassador at large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2015-2017); Ambassador to the Czech Republic (2010-2015); Ambassador at large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-2009); Ambassador to the United Kingdom (2002-2006); Ambassador to Ireland (resident in London) (2003-2005); Director, Second Bilateral Relations Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999-2002); Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe (1994-1999); Deputy Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe (Strasbourg, France), Chargé d'Affaires a.i. (1993-1994); Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (from 1993); Director of the Department of International Relations, Ministry of Transport (1992-1993).

Mr. Taurantas speaks Lithuanian, English, French, Russian and has a basic knowledge of German and Czech.

Mr. Taurantas is married and has two daughters.
