VIENNA, 13 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Portugal to the United Nations (Vienna), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, António de Almeida Ribeiro, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During his career, Mr. Almeida Ribeiro has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador to the Sovereign Order of Malta (2013); Ambassador to the Holy See (2013); Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2011); Director General for External Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2011); Full Rank Ambassador (2010); Ambassador to the European Union Political and Security Committee and Permanent Representative to the Western European Union (2009); Ambassador to Egypt; non-resident Ambassador to Jordan and Sudan (2007); Ambassador in Argentina; non-resident Ambassador to Bolivia and Paraguay (2002); Minister Plenipotentiary of 1 st Class (2001); Director-General for Administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999); Deputy Director General for Bilateral Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1998); Minister Plenipotentiary of 2 nd Class (1998); Consul-General in London (1994); Counsellor (1993); Head of Cabinet of the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs (1992); Adviser to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (1991); Head of Division at the Directorate of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1991); First Secretary of Embassy (1990); Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in Praia, Cabo Verde (1988); Auditor of the Defence College of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (1986); Alternate Representative to the Food and Agriculture Organization, Embassy in Rome (1983); Second Secretary of Embassy (1982); Third Secretary of Embassy (1982); Adviser for International Relations at the Office of the President of the Republic (1981); Attaché of Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1979).
Mr. Almeida Ribeiro studied Legal and Political Sciences at the University of Coimbra, Portugal.
Mr. Almeida Ribeiro is married and has two children.
