on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 September 2017

Plenary Room, M-Building, Vienna International Centre

On 4-5 September 2017, the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) will host the fifth of six informal thematic sessions of the General Assembly supporting the inter-governmental process designed to lead to the adoption in 2018 of a global compact on safe, orderly and regular migration.

Member States committed to developing this compact when they adopted the New York Declaration on Refugees and Migrants last year.

The fifth informal thematic session, under the co-facilitation of Switzerland and Mexico, is titled "Smuggling of migrants, trafficking in persons and contemporary forms of slavery, including appropriate identification, protection and assistance to migrants and trafficking victims".

The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for International Migration, Louise Arbour, will serve as the Secretary-General of the session.

The session will be held in the Plenary, building M (first floor), on 4 and 5 September 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Media representatives who wish to attend the event, and who are not accredited to the VIC, should write to press[at]unvienna.org.

Access to the M-building is via Gate One of the Vienna International Centre.

The meeting will be webcast live at: http://www.unis.unvienna.org/unis/en/webcast.html
