VIENNA, 22 November (UN Information Service) - At the invitation of the Director-General of the United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov, the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, today visited the Vienna International Centre to meet with Mr. Fedotov and the heads of other Vienna-based organizations.
Mr. Fedotov, in a meeting with President Van der Bellen, affirmed the strong ties between Austria and the United Nations in Vienna, and the wider UN system. He paid tribute to Austria's strong commitment to multilateral diplomacy and its enduring history of supporting UN peacekeeping efforts.
UNOV, Mr. Fedotov said, deeply appreciated Austria's promotion of the UN's work in Vienna. In nearly 40 years, he added, the Vienna-based UN organizations, including the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, and Austria had achieved much in the fields of peace, security, development and human rights.
Mr. Fedotov added that UNOV remains committed to continuing the close partnership and to playing a decisive role in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He said building peaceful and inclusive societies, among many other goals, was key if development is to be sustained around the world.
