VIENNA, 15 January (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations (Vienna), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Giampaolo Carmelo Rizzo Alvarado, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
Mr. Rizzo Alvarado is also Deputy Permanent Representative of Honduras to the Office of the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva and has served in this role since August 2010. In 2016 Ambassador Rizzo Alvarado chaired the Regional Group of Latin America and Caribbean Countries, GRULAC, accredited to the Human Rights Council.
During his career since joining the Honduran Foreign Service in 2002, Mr. Rizzo Alvarado has served in various capacities, among them:
Deputy Permanent Representative to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development; Minister Counsellor to Italy (concurrent to Greece, Cyprus, Hungary and Romania); Minister Counsellor to Sweden (concurrent to Ireland, the Nordic and the Baltic countries); Counsellor to the European Union and First Secretary to Belgium and Luxembourg.
Furthermore, Mr. Rizzo Alvarado has served as Deputy Delegate to the Instituto Italo Latinoamericano (IILA); as Head of Delegation of Honduras to the FAO Councils; and as a delegate for Central American mixed Commission with the European Union and Ministerial Conferences of the Group of Rio. He has also served as Delegate to the Honduran Olympic Committee.
Mr. Rizzo Alvarado graduated in Industrial and Business Administration from the Central American Technological University (UNITEC) and has pursued postgraduate studies in Finance, Public diplomacy, Geopolitics and Strategic Thinking in Philosophy of War and Conflict Resolution.
Mr. Rizzo Alvarado speaks Spanish, English, French and Italian.
