VIENNA, 17 July (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Cyprusto the United Nations (Vienna), Elena Rafti, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During her career, Ms. Rafti has served in various capacities, among them:
Head of the Security Policy Department, Political Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Task Force drafting the first National Security Strategy of Cyprus (2014-2018); Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in Germany (2010-2014); Counsellor for External Relations at the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the European Union in Brussels (2007-2010), and Representative to the Political and Security Committee (2007-2008); Chargée d'affaires and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in Belgium (2006-2007); served in the Bilateral Affairs Division, Western Balkan Desk, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2004-2006); Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in Denmark (2000-2004); and Attaché at the European Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1998-2000).
Elena Rafti graduated from the University of Kent with a Bachelor's degree in International Relations. She also holds a Master of Philosophy in Sociology and Politics from the University of Cambridge.
Ms. Rafti speaks Greek and English. She is married and has two children.
