Statement of the Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yury Fedotov on the visit of the President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset

UNODC thanks Switzerland for supporting anti-human trafficking initiatives and efforts against corruption

Vienna, 8 January (UN Information Service) - I deeply appreciate the close partnership existing between UNODC and the Swiss Confederation in the fight against human trafficking, corruption and numerous other criminal activities.

My warm thanks to President Berset for the Swiss Confederation's firm support of our Global Programme against human trafficking and our ongoing efforts to address the serious challenges created by migrant smuggling.

Combating corruption is another key area where the Swiss Confederation cooperates closely with UNODC, particularly in recovering stolen assets.

The Swiss Confederation is also helping UNODC to promote the involvement of the private sector against corruption, especially international banks, to enhance transparency and accountability.

I look forward to continuing this effective cooperation that is strengthening our efforts to make the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.
