UNISPACE+50

18 - 21 June 2018

VIENNA, 14 March (UN Information Service) - The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) invites the media to UNISPACE+50, from 18 to 21 June 2018 in the M Building of the Vienna International Centre (VIC).

UNISPACE+50 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, held in Vienna in 1968. It will also be an opportunity for the international community to gather and consider the future course of global space cooperation for the benefit of humankind.

Hundreds of representatives from the space community are expected at UNISPACE+50, including United Nations Member States, Permanent Observers, United Nations entities, space agencies, NGOs, academia, civil society, students, the private sector and industry. United Nations Champion for Space, former astronaut Scott Kelly, will be a special guest.

UNISPACE+50 will consist of two main parts:

2. UNISPACE+50 Summit: 20-21 June

A special high-level segment of the 61st session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space will be open to all Member States of the United Nations, with an address by United Nations Champion for Space Scott Kelly, the adoption of the UNISPACE+50 resolution, and statements by United Nations Member States.

Other activities

A number of side events will be held during UNISPACE+50.

In addition, a UNISPACE+50 exhibition consisting of nearly 40 exhibitors will be held in the Rotunda of the VIC from 18 to 23 June. The exhibition will be open to the public from 9:00 until 13:00 on 23 June.
