VIENNA, 10 October (UN Information Service) - The media is invited to cover a special (English-subtitled) production of the renowned Italian play "Dieci storie proprio cosi" (Ten stories just like this), to be held during the 9th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.

Performed for the first time outside Italy since its debut in Naples in 2012, the play was written by Giulia Minoli and Emanuela Giordano as part of the project "Il palcoscenico della legalità" (The stage of lawfulness), after meetings with the families of victims of criminal organizations such as the Mafia. It showcases civic responses to organized crime throughout Italy and aims at innovatively turning them into tools to prevent and fight crime. It has been performed all over Italy, including for over 50,000 students.

The play will be introduced by Alfonso Bonafede, Minister of Justice of Italy, John Brandolino, Director of the Division for Treaty Affairs of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Director Giulia Minoli. It will be followed by the testimonies of Professor Maria Falcone, sister of Judge Giovanni Falcone (who was assassinated by the Mafia) and President of the Falcone Foundation, Federico Cafiero De Raho, National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor of Italy, and Professor Nando della Chiesa, Professor at the University of Milan.

Fifty Austrian secondary school students will also attend the play.

The event is organized jointly by Education for Justice, a component of UNODC's Global Programme for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration, and the Permanent Mission of Italy to the International Organizations in Vienna.
