UNIS/MA/232
24 October 2018
VIENNA, 24 October (UN Information Service) - The international space community will gather in Bonn from 13 to 16 November 2018 for the High Level Forum 2018 (HLF2018) to build on the outcomes of UNISPACE+50 and move forward on the Space2030 Agenda for strengthened cooperation and governance of outer space affairs. Participants will discuss the potential of space innovations to address new and emerging sustainable development challenges.
The event is organized in two parts. The first two days will focus on technical themes such as the global partnership for space exploration and innovation, how space applications can be used for sustainable development, the legal regime of outer space and global space governance, information exchange on space objects and events and capacity building in the space sector.
During the second two days of the event, high-level panels will discuss the way forward on the four pillars of UNISPACE+50: space economy, space society, space accessibility and space diplomacy.
The Forum brings together a wide range of participants, including academia, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, governmental entities, space agencies, and the private sector.
The High Level Forum 2018 builds on the success of the previous ones in 2016 and 2017, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and of UNISPACE+50, held in 2018 in Vienna, Austria. The Forum is expected to set the future course of global space cooperation under the Space2030 Agenda, following on from UNISPACE+50.
The High Level Forum 2018 is organized by UNOOSA, in conjunction with the German Space Administration (DLR) and co-sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA).
